Background
Matthew Presley began studying dance through personal research
at the age of fourteen while attending St Joseph's College Nudgee
on an athletics scholarship. Being a self taught dancer he began
competing in Brisbane based competitions regularly from 2003 which
aided in enhancing his passion for performing arts. For the duration
of his senior schooling years he was elected School Vice Captain
at Clontarf Beach State High School and was heavily involved with
many school productions.
Matt's achievements included choreographing many sections of upcoming
productions, teaching students choreography and co-coordinating
a majority of his schools musicals, regional and state performances
such as the Murrumba Down District Dance Competition and the Queensland
Rock Eisteddfod.
During 2004 he began teaching break dance in schools around the
Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast regions as well as performing in
outer school musicals and underage night clubs. In 2005 he attended
the Queensland Institute of Tafe studying a Certificate II in Performing
Arts (Acting). Throughout that year he performed in a number of
performances in Nightclubs and Resorts in areas such as Brisbane,
Noosa, Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Mackay and Cairns with a varied number
of dance agencies and groups such as Aus Dance, 365 Hip Hop Dance
Crew and ID Studio.
While performing all over Queensland Matthew continued teaching
in workshops with a number of high schools and also Co-directed
Sunshine Beach State High Schools fifth place winning Rock Eisteddfod
performance. Throughout his time with this high school Matt trained
students in acrobatics, taught basic and advanced techniques of
break dance and co-choreographed the productions final performance
In 2006 Matt was involved with a Brisbane based dance company
named Raw Dance where his tuition experience was utilised during
the 2006 and 2007 Croc Festivals where he taught many indigenous
children from areas in far north Queensland, Northern Territory
and Western Australia.
Currently Matthew is working with a company called Indigenous
Hip Hop Projects which deliver positive messages about building
self respect, self confidence, self expression, leadership and
the awareness of mental health in an attempt to bring the community
closer through the art of dance. Indigenous Hip Hop Projects are
currently and constantly fulfilling successful projects throughout
all states and areas of rural, remote and urban Australia.
